Evonik unveils new polyamide powder for 3D printing applications

The new polyamide powder has a favorable effect on the dimensional stability of printed 3D components and on the process-ability in 3D printing applications

The German specialty chemicals company Evonik has reportedly announced the launch of its new polyamide (PA) 6 powder for 3D printing applications. As per trusted sources, the new polymer powder is equipped with excellent temperature and chemical resistance as well as features high mechanical strength.

Reportedly, the new polyamide powder has a favorable effect on the dimensional stability of printed 3D components and on the process-ability in 3D printing applications as it has low water absorption of below 3 percent.

Founder and Chief Executive Officer of TPM 3D, Mark Zhao was reportedly quoted saying that the 3D printing industry moves one step forward toward series production owing to the latest, ready-to-use materials which are ideally adapted to the customized printer and enlarge the array of application to higher temperatures. According to a press release issued by Evonik, a proprietary process of Evonik is deployed to manufacture the high-temperature material at the firm’s facility.

The company is experiencing a robust demand for 3D solutions in the higher temperature range – for instance in the electronics and automotive industries, which has compelled Evonik to introduce the new temperature-stable material in collaboration with Evonik, Zhao further added. For the record, TPM 3D is a Chinese Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) of the selective laser sintering (SLS) machine.

Sources familiar with the development claim that the latest polymer powder in Evonik’s PA 6 series makes a mark of its own as it has outstanding application and flowability properties, which makes it suitable for all powder-based 3D printing technologies.

For the record, Evonik is a leader in the manufacturing of PA 12 powders that are being utilized in additive manufacturing technologies for the last 20 years.
